What is GHRP-6 (10 mg)?

GHRP-6 (growth hormone-releasing peptide 6) is a synthetic ghrelin mimetic — a GHS-R1a receptor agonist, which induces the pulsatile release of growth hormone (GH) via a GHRH-independent pathway. Its hallmark is the strongest appetite stimulation among the classic GHRPs — it is precisely the effect on hunger that distinguishes GHRP-6 from its "cousin" GHRP-2.

GHRP-6 belongs to the group of GH secretagogues (GHS) — the "classic" GHRPs, alongside GHRP-2 and Hexarelin. In combination with GHRH analogs (like CJC-1295 / Sermorelin) it shows an additive effect on GH peaks. In the Peptology catalog it is in the category peptides for skin, sleep and libido (GH axis segment).

It is a research compound — it is not a medicinal product and holds no authorization for clinical use. In human studies, GHRP-6 increases GH, but as an "early" GHRP it can also raise ACTH, cortisol and prolactin (PRL) (a class effect). The product offered by Peptology is a research-grade reagent.

In the version offered by Peptology, GHRP-6 is available in a 10 mg vial as a lyophilized peptide with purity ≥ 99%, confirmed by independent laboratory analysis (CoA for every batch). The product is intended exclusively for scientific research and in vitro applications.

Variant: GHRP-6 10 mg

This page concerns one dosage variant — GHRP-6 10 mg. Each vial contains 10 mg of the lyophilized peptide. A typical working reconstitution is 1 mL → 10 mg/mL, and the research doses described in the literature usually fall in the range of 100–300 µg.

GHRP-6 is offered in the 10 mg variant. If you are interested in a GHS with a strong GH pulse and less appetite, check GHRP-2, and for a selective variant (minimal effect on cortisol/PRL/appetite) — Ipamorelin.

How GHRP-6 works — the GHS-R1a mechanism

In the research literature, GHRP-6 is described as a potent GH secretagogue with a dominant hypothalamic mechanism. Below are the three most frequently studied elements.

GHS-R1a RECEPTOR

Activates GHS-R1a → Ca²⁺-dependent release of GH from somatotrophs and reduction of somatostatin tone.

APPETITE (HUNGER)

The strongest appetite stimulation among the classic GHRPs — a central effect on hunger regulation.

HYPOTHALAMIC DOMINANCE

Pituitary-disconnection data indicate a dominant hypothalamic mechanism; additivity with GHRH confirms this.

Why appetite is the hallmark of GHRP-6

All ghrelin mimetics increase appetite, but GHRP-6 does so most strongly among the classic GHRPs — which is why it is most often studied precisely in the context of hunger regulation and body composition. For comparison, GHRP-2 gives a similar GH pulse with a more moderate appetite, and Ipamorelin barely affects hunger at all.

GHRP-6 has a short half-life (t½α ≈ 7.6 min, t½β ≈ 2.5 h), with a short window of GH peaks. This data comes from studies and does not constitute a claim about the effect of the research-grade product offered by Peptology.

Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (research framework)

GHRP-6 is a short-acting GH secretagogue from the ghrelin mimetic group, with the strongest appetite profile. The most important research characteristics:

  • Class: synthetic GHRP, ghrelin receptor GHS-R1a agonist
  • Target: GHS-R1a in the hypothalamic-pituitary axis (predominantly hypothalamic mechanism)
  • Half-life: t½α ≈ 7.6 min, t½β ≈ 2.5 h (bi-exponential model); GH peak window minutes–hours
  • Appetite: the strongest hunger stimulation among the classic GHRPs
  • Synergy: additive GH secretion when combined with GHRH (CJC-1295/Sermorelin)
  • Class effects: possible increase in ACTH/cortisol/PRL

Comparison: GHRP-6 vs GHRP-2 vs Ipamorelin

All three are GH secretagogues (GHS-R1a agonists), but they differ in the strength of their effect on appetite and their hormonal profile. GHRP-6's closest "cousin" is GHRP-2; for contrast, the selective Ipamorelin is added.

PRL / ACTH / cortisol Possible increase Possible increase Minimal (selective)
Dose (this version) 10 mg 10 mg 5 / 10 mg
Best for research on Appetite + GH pulse Strong GH pulse (with GHRH) "Clean" GH without side effects

GHRP-6 stands out for the strongest appetite stimulation, GHRP-2 gives a similar GH pulse with less hunger, and Ipamorelin is a selective alternative with minimal effect on cortisol/PRL and appetite. The comparison is indicative in nature and does not constitute a recommendation for use.

Areas of research on GHRP-6

GHRP-6 is one of the best-described GHS, studied particularly in the context of appetite and the GH axis. Below are the most frequently explored directions.

Appetite and body composition

The strongest appetite stimulation among the classic GHRPs makes GHRP-6 a frequent object of research on hunger regulation — the GHS class is considered in reviews, among other things in the context of appetite and body composition.

GH stimulation and synergy with GHRH

GHRP-6 produces marked GH peaks, and simultaneous administration with GHRH gives an additive effect. Pituitary-disconnection data indicate a dominant hypothalamic mechanism. Hence the combination with GHRH analogs (CJC-1295).

Hormonal profile and long-term data

In some studies, ACTH/cortisol and prolactin responses were observed (a GHRP class effect). There are no widely published, long-term RCTs for specific indications — this is a research area, not a confirmed therapeutic application of the research-grade product.

Research dosing protocols

Important: The information below describes schedules used in research on GHRP-6. It is provided for scientific and informational purposes and does not constitute a recommendation for individual use, medical advice or administration instructions. The research-grade GHRP-6 offered by Peptology is not a registered drug.

In research protocols, GHRP-6 is usually administered after reconstitution of the lyophilizate, most often subcutaneously:

  • Working reconstitution: 1 mL → 10 mg/mL; the described research doses are usually 100–300 µg
  • Often administered in "pulses", away from carbohydrate meals (the strong effect on appetite is worth considering in the schedule)
  • Recommended titration and breaks in cycles to avoid tachyphylaxis
  • Often combined with GHRH analogs (CJC-1295 / Sermorelin) for an additive effect — calculate in the peptide calculator

A ready-made GHRH + GHS complex is available as CJC-1295 + Ipamorelin. These schedules come from the research literature and do not constitute a recommendation for self-administration.

Side effects and safety

In research observations, GHRP-6 is described as well tolerated in healthy volunteers, but as an "early" GHRP it has class effects. Side effects are usually mild and transient. The data concern research on the molecule.

Frequent (mild)

  • Strongly increased appetite / hunger
  • Facial redness (flushing)
  • Paresthesias, mild water retention

Class effects

  • Possible ↑ PRL / ACTH / cortisol
  • Headache, mild nausea
  • Transient discomfort at the injection site

To consider

  • Risk of tachyphylaxis — use breaks
  • Limited long-term data
  • Hypersensitivity to components

Good research practice is to titrate doses and maintain breaks in cycles. If a "clean" GH profile without a strong appetite and class effects is key, the selective alternative is Ipamorelin. This information is scientific in nature and does not constitute an instruction for use.

Storage and reconstitution

GHRP-6 is supplied as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder in a vial. In lyophilized form it is stable at room temperature, protected from light and moisture — refrigeration before reconstitution is not mandatory. After reconstitution, stability depends on the solvent used, with Peptide Matrix Water™ significantly extending the peptide's lifespan.

  • Before reconstitution: room temperature, in the original packaging, protected from light and moisture. A refrigerator is not mandatory.
  • After reconstitution with Peptide Matrix Water™: stability in the refrigerator +2 °C to +8 °C for up to 60 days under appropriate laboratory conditions — the stabilizing formula extends the peptide's lifespan relative to standard solvents.
  • After reconstitution with bacteriostatic or sterile water: stability in the refrigerator +2 °C to +8 °C for up to 28 days under appropriate conditions. Do not refreeze the reconstituted solution.
  • Reconstitution: in a laboratory setting, Peptide Matrix Water™, bacteriostatic water or sterile water for injection is usually used, depending on the protocol.
  • Volume: maximum 3 mL of solvent (capacity of a standard vial). For a precise calculation of volume and units, use the peptide calculator.
  • Homogenization: add the solvent slowly down the vial wall, without vigorous shaking, then wait 10–15 min. Swirl gently, do not shake.

Laboratory tip: With your order, you can add Peptide Matrix Water™ to the cart — a stabilizing solution designed for working with reconstituted research peptides. More in the article Bacteriostatic water vs acetic acid vs matrix water.

Frequently asked questions about GHRP-6

How does GHRP-6 differ from GHRP-2?

Both are "classic" GHRPs with a strong effect on GH and similar class effects (PRL/ACTH/cortisol). The most important difference: GHRP-6 most strongly stimulates appetite, whereas GHRP-2 gives a similar GH pulse with a more moderate hunger.

And how does it differ from Ipamorelin?

Ipamorelin is more selective — it gives a "clean" GH pulse with minimal effect on cortisol, PRL and appetite. GHRP-6 is stronger on appetite but less hormonally selective.

Does it act at the pituitary or hypothalamic level?

Pituitary-disconnection data indicate a dominant hypothalamic mechanism, which is confirmed by the synergy with GHRH (simultaneous administration with a GHRH analog gives additive GH secretion).

How long does GHRP-6 act?

The half-life is t½α ≈ 7.6 min and t½β ≈ 2.5 h; the clinical window of GH peaks is short (minutes–hours). That is why it is administered in "pulses".

How is GHRP-6 stored and reconstituted?

The lyophilized vial is stored at room temperature, protected from light and moisture. After reconstitution, stability depends on the solvent: with Peptide Matrix Water™ — up to 60 days in the refrigerator +2 °C to +8 °C; with bacteriostatic or sterile water — up to 28 days. Avoid refreezing.

What you need

Precision pipette

Calibrated, 100–1000 µL — for accurately measuring the volume of solvent added to the vial.

70% alcohol swabs

Two swabs — to disinfect the peptide vial and the solvent vial.

Peptide Matrix Water

Stabilized solvent for lyophilized peptides. Why this one.

Five rules for reconstitution

✅ Correct ❌ Mistake
Disinfect the vial caps and the work surface with 70% alcohol; wear gloves Working without disinfection
Add the solvent slowly along the vial wall Direct jet onto the powder — foaming and denaturation
Gentle rolling between the palms Shaking — foam, which denatures peptides
10–15 minutes waiting at room temperature Mechanical mixing or heating
Visual check: clear, particle-free Working with a cloudy or discolored solution

Calculating concentration

⚠️ Maximum 3 mL solvent. The standard vial does not accommodate larger volumes — do not exceed during reconstitution.

  • Concentration (mg/mL) = mg in the vial ÷ mL of solvent
  • Volume per sample (mL) = amount per sample (mg) ÷ concentration (mg/mL)
  • 1 mg/mL = 1 µg/µL · 1 mL = 1000 µL

Reconstitution per vial — solvent: Peptide Matrix Water. Concentration after adding the solvent (1 mg/mL = 1 µg/µL):

Vial+ 1 mL+ 2 mL+ 3 mL
10 mg10 mg/mL5 mg/mL3.33 mg/mL

👉 For any vial and solvent volume — use the calculator. It calculates the concentration (mg/mL, µg/µL) and the volume per sample (mL, µL).

Storage

BEFORE RECONSTITUTION

Room temperature, protected from direct light, in original packaging. Refrigerator not required.

AFTER RECONSTITUTION

+2 °C to +8 °C, up to 60 days with Peptide Matrix Water. Discard any remainder after this period.

FREEZING

Not recommended. Freeze/thaw cycles degrade peptide structure.

Four mistakes to avoid

1. Shaking "to dissolve faster"

Foam = denaturation. Only gentle rolling between the palms.

2. Inappropriate solvent

For peptide stability use only sterile, specially formulated solvent — recommended Peptide Matrix Water.

3. Ignoring slight turbidity

Not fully clear = the sample does not meet the criteria for use.

4. Taking it out of the refrigerator "for an hour–two"

Short exposures add up and compromise stability.

Research status: All Peptology products are intended for laboratory and research use only. They are not medicinal products, not approved for human or veterinary use and do not substitute medical advice. The described protocol is standard laboratory practice for working with lyophilized peptides.
