What is GHRP-2 (10 mg)?

GHRP-2 (growth hormone-releasing peptide 2) is a synthetic ghrelin mimetic — a GHS-R1a receptor agonist, which induces the pulsatile release of growth hormone (GH) from the pituitary. It acts via a GHRH-independent pathway and retains activity even when the GHRH pathway is blocked — which is why, in combination with GHRH analogs (like CJC-1295 or Sermorelin), it shows an additive/synergistic effect on GH peaks.

GHRP-2 belongs to the group of GH secretagogues (GHS) — the "classic" GHRPs, alongside GHRP-6 and Hexarelin. In the Peptology catalog it is assigned to the category peptides for skin, sleep and libido (GH axis and regeneration segment).

It is a research compound — it is not a medicinal product and holds no authorization for clinical use. In human studies, GHRP-2 produces marked GH spikes, but as an "older" GHRP it can also raise the level of prolactin (PRL), ACTH and cortisol (a class effect). The product offered by Peptology is a research-grade reagent.

In the version offered by Peptology, GHRP-2 is available in a 10 mg vial as a lyophilized peptide with purity ≥ 99%, confirmed by independent laboratory analysis (CoA for every batch). The product is intended exclusively for scientific research and in vitro applications.

Variant: GHRP-2 10 mg

This page concerns one dosage variant — GHRP-2 10 mg. Each vial contains 10 mg of the lyophilized peptide. A typical working reconstitution is 1 mL → 10 mg/mL, and the research doses described in the literature usually fall in the range of 100–300 µg.

GHRP-2 is offered in the 10 mg variant. If you are interested in a GHS with a stronger effect on appetite, check GHRP-6, and for a selective variant (less effect on cortisol/PRL) — Ipamorelin.

How GHRP-2 works — the GHS-R1a mechanism

In the research literature, GHRP-2 is described as a potent GH secretagogue acting via the ghrelin receptor. Below are the three most frequently studied elements.

GHS-R1a RECEPTOR

Activates GHS-R1a → the PLC/PKC pathway, Ca²⁺ influx, depolarization of somatotrophs and GH exocytosis.

HYPOTHALAMIC ACTION

Reduces somatostatin tone and enhances GH pulsatility; shows additivity with GHRH.

SYSTEMIC EFFECTS

Increases appetite; as an "older" GHRP it can raise PRL/ACTH/cortisol (a class effect).

Why synergy with GHRH matters

GH is released via two independent pathways: GHRH (analogs like CJC-1295 / Sermorelin) and the ghrelin pathway (GHS-R1a — GHRP-2). Simultaneous stimulation of both gives additive GH secretion, greater than each pathway alone. That is why, in research protocols, GHRP-2 is sometimes combined with GHRH analogs.

GHRP-2 has a short half-life (a GH peak window on the order of minutes–hours), unlike long-acting non-peptide GHS. This data comes from studies and does not constitute a claim about the effect of the research-grade product offered by Peptology.

Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (research framework)

GHRP-2 is a short-acting GH secretagogue from the ghrelin mimetic group. The most important research characteristics:

  • Class: synthetic GHRP, ghrelin receptor GHS-R1a agonist
  • Target: GHS-R1a in the hypothalamic-pituitary axis (GHRH-independent pathway)
  • Half-life: short — GH peaks in a window of minutes–hours
  • Synergy: additive GH secretion when combined with GHRH (CJC-1295/Sermorelin)
  • Class effects: increased appetite; possible increase in PRL/ACTH/cortisol
  • Reference concentration: 10 mg in 1 mL = 10 mg/mL; research doses usually 100–300 µg

Comparison: GHRP-2 vs GHRP-6 vs Ipamorelin

All three are GH secretagogues (GHS-R1a agonists), but they differ in the strength of their effect on appetite and their hormonal profile (PRL/ACTH/cortisol). GHRP-2's closest "cousin" is GHRP-6; for contrast, the selective Ipamorelin is added.

GHRP-2 (this page) GHRP-6 Ipamorelin
Class GHRP (ghrelin mimetic) GHRP (ghrelin mimetic) Selective GHS
GH pulse strength Strong Strong Moderate / clean
Effect on appetite Moderate–significant Very strong (distinguishing feature) Minimal
PRL / ACTH / cortisol Possible increase Possible increase Minimal (selective)
Dose (this version) 10 mg 10 mg 5 / 10 mg
Best for research on Strong GH pulse (with GHRH) Appetite + GH pulse "Clean" GH without side effects

GHRP-2 and GHRP-6 are close "cousins" — both strongly stimulate GH and have class effects (PRL/ACTH/cortisol), but GHRP-6 stands out for the strongest appetite stimulation. Ipamorelin is a newer, selective alternative with minimal effect on cortisol/PRL and appetite. The comparison is indicative in nature and does not constitute a recommendation for use.

Areas of research on GHRP-2

GHRP-2 is a well-described GH secretagogue, often used as a "comparison platform" for other GHS. Below are the most frequently explored directions.

GH stimulation and synergy with GHRH

In human studies, GHRP-2 produces strong GH spikes, and simultaneous administration with GHRH gives an additive effect (greater than each alone). This is the main reason why, in research protocols, GHRP-2 is combined with GHRH analogs, like CJC-1295.

Appetite and hormonal profile

Like other ghrelin mimetics, GHRP-2 increases appetite. As an "older" GHRP it can also raise PRL, ACTH and cortisol — this is a class effect, less pronounced than with GHRP-6 in the context of appetite, but present.

Long-term data

There is a limited number of long-term RCTs for peptide GHS, although the field is well described in review papers. This is a research area, not a confirmed therapeutic application of the research-grade product.

Research dosing protocols

Important: The information below describes schedules used in research on GHRP-2. It is provided for scientific and informational purposes and does not constitute a recommendation for individual use, medical advice or administration instructions. The research-grade GHRP-2 offered by Peptology is not a registered drug.

In research protocols, GHRP-2 is usually administered after reconstitution of the lyophilizate, most often subcutaneously:

  • Working reconstitution: 1 mL → 10 mg/mL; the described research doses are usually 100–300 µg
  • Often administered in "pulses" (e.g. before sleep or around training), away from carbohydrate meals
  • Recommended titration and breaks in cycles to avoid tachyphylaxis (weakening of the response)
  • Often combined with GHRH analogs (CJC-1295 / Sermorelin) for an additive effect — calculate in the peptide calculator

A ready-made GHRH + GHS complex is available as CJC-1295 + Ipamorelin. These schedules come from the research literature and do not constitute a recommendation for self-administration.

Side effects and safety

In research observations, GHRP-2 is described as well tolerated, but as an "older" GHRP it has class effects. Side effects are usually mild and transient. The data concern research on the molecule.

Frequent (mild)

  • Increased appetite / hunger
  • Facial redness (flushing)
  • Paresthesias, water retention

Class effects

  • Possible ↑ PRL / ACTH / cortisol
  • Headache, mild nausea
  • Transient discomfort at the injection site

To consider

  • Risk of tachyphylaxis — use breaks
  • Limited long-term data
  • Hypersensitivity to components

Good research practice is to titrate doses and maintain breaks in cycles to limit tachyphylaxis and class effects. If a "clean" GH profile is key, the selective alternative is Ipamorelin. This information is scientific in nature and does not constitute an instruction for use.

Storage and reconstitution

GHRP-2 is supplied as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder in a vial. In lyophilized form it is stable at room temperature, protected from light and moisture — refrigeration before reconstitution is not mandatory. After reconstitution, stability depends on the solvent used, with Peptide Matrix Water™ significantly extending the peptide's lifespan.

  • Before reconstitution: room temperature, in the original packaging, protected from light and moisture. A refrigerator is not mandatory.
  • After reconstitution with Peptide Matrix Water™: stability in the refrigerator +2 °C to +8 °C for up to 60 days under appropriate laboratory conditions — the stabilizing formula extends the peptide's lifespan relative to standard solvents.
  • After reconstitution with bacteriostatic or sterile water: stability in the refrigerator +2 °C to +8 °C for up to 28 days under appropriate conditions. Do not refreeze the reconstituted solution.
  • Reconstitution: in a laboratory setting, Peptide Matrix Water™, bacteriostatic water or sterile water for injection is usually used, depending on the protocol.
  • Volume: maximum 3 mL of solvent (capacity of a standard vial). For a precise calculation of volume and units, use the peptide calculator.
  • Homogenization: add the solvent slowly down the vial wall, without vigorous shaking, then wait 10–15 min. Swirl gently, do not shake.

Laboratory tip: With your order, you can add Peptide Matrix Water™ to the cart — a stabilizing solution designed for working with reconstituted research peptides. More in the article Bacteriostatic water vs acetic acid vs matrix water.

Frequently asked questions about GHRP-2

How does GHRP-2 differ from GHRP-6?

Both are "classic" GHRPs with a strong effect on GH and similar class effects (PRL/ACTH/cortisol). The most important difference: GHRP-6 very strongly stimulates appetite (that is its hallmark), whereas GHRP-2 gives a moderate–significant appetite with a strong GH pulse.

And how does it differ from Ipamorelin?

Ipamorelin is a newer, more selective GH secretagogue — it gives a "cleaner" GH pulse with minimal effect on cortisol, PRL and appetite. GHRP-2 is stronger but less selective.

Is there synergy with GHRH?

Yes — simultaneous administration of GHRP-2 with a GHRH analog (CJC-1295 / Sermorelin) gives additive GH secretion, greater than each pathway alone.

How long does GHRP-2 act?

GHRP-2 has a short half-life — a GH peak window on the order of minutes to an hour, unlike long-acting non-peptide GHS. That is why it is administered in "pulses".

How is GHRP-2 stored and reconstituted?

The lyophilized vial is stored at room temperature, protected from light and moisture. After reconstitution, stability depends on the solvent: with Peptide Matrix Water™ — up to 60 days in the refrigerator +2 °C to +8 °C; with bacteriostatic or sterile water — up to 28 days. Avoid refreezing.

What you need

Precision pipette

Calibrated, 100–1000 µL — for accurately measuring the volume of solvent added to the vial.

70% alcohol swabs

Two swabs — to disinfect the peptide vial and the solvent vial.

Peptide Matrix Water

Stabilized solvent for lyophilized peptides. Why this one.

Five rules for reconstitution

✅ Correct ❌ Mistake
Disinfect the vial caps and the work surface with 70% alcohol; wear gloves Working without disinfection
Add the solvent slowly along the vial wall Direct jet onto the powder — foaming and denaturation
Gentle rolling between the palms Shaking — foam, which denatures peptides
10–15 minutes waiting at room temperature Mechanical mixing or heating
Visual check: clear, particle-free Working with a cloudy or discolored solution

Calculating concentration

⚠️ Maximum 3 mL solvent. The standard vial does not accommodate larger volumes — do not exceed during reconstitution.

  • Concentration (mg/mL) = mg in the vial ÷ mL of solvent
  • Volume per sample (mL) = amount per sample (mg) ÷ concentration (mg/mL)
  • 1 mg/mL = 1 µg/µL · 1 mL = 1000 µL

Reconstitution per vial — solvent: Peptide Matrix Water. Concentration after adding the solvent (1 mg/mL = 1 µg/µL):

Vial+ 1 mL+ 2 mL+ 3 mL
10 mg10 mg/mL5 mg/mL3.33 mg/mL

👉 For any vial and solvent volume — use the calculator. It calculates the concentration (mg/mL, µg/µL) and the volume per sample (mL, µL).

Storage

BEFORE RECONSTITUTION

Room temperature, protected from direct light, in original packaging. Refrigerator not required.

AFTER RECONSTITUTION

+2 °C to +8 °C, up to 60 days with Peptide Matrix Water. Discard any remainder after this period.

FREEZING

Not recommended. Freeze/thaw cycles degrade peptide structure.

Four mistakes to avoid

1. Shaking "to dissolve faster"

Foam = denaturation. Only gentle rolling between the palms.

2. Inappropriate solvent

For peptide stability use only sterile, specially formulated solvent — recommended Peptide Matrix Water.

3. Ignoring slight turbidity

Not fully clear = the sample does not meet the criteria for use.

4. Taking it out of the refrigerator "for an hour–two"

Short exposures add up and compromise stability.
