Ethanoic / Acetic acid 0.6% – sterile laboratory solution 10 ml

What is acetic acid 0.6% (Acetic Acid) 10 ml?

Acetic acid 0.6% (also known as ethanoic acid, Acetic Acid, formula CH₃COOH) is a sterile, specialist acidic solvent for the reconstitution of lyophilized peptides that require a low-pH environment or have limited solubility in neutral aqueous solutions. It is the third category of solvents in a typical peptide laboratory.

Acetic acid 0.6% belongs to the category solutions for peptides. It does not replace bacteriostatic water or Peptide Matrix Water™, but complements them — the choice depends on the specific peptide and protocol.

Important: The product is a diluent/solvent intended exclusively for research and in vitro purposes — not for self-administration, not a medicinal product, supplement or solution for medical injection. It is a specialist solution; for most peptides, a better, universal premium choice is Peptide Matrix Water™.

In the version offered by Peptology, acetic acid is available in a 10 ml pack at a concentration of 0.6%, sterile, of confirmed quality. The product is intended exclusively for scientific research and laboratory use.

Variant and composition: 10 ml (0.6% acetic acid)

Acetic acid is offered in one volume — a 10 ml vial. One vial is usually enough to reconstitute 5 to 10 peptide vials (depending on the volume used per vial).

VOLUME

10 ml of sterile acidic solution for peptide reconstitution.

CONCENTRATION and pH

0.6% acetic acid, pH ~3 (acidic environment).

INTENDED FOR

Hydrophobic and aggregation-prone peptides that require a low pH.

How acetic acid works — why acidic pH

Not all peptides dissolve equally in neutral water. An acidic environment (pH ~3) changes the molecule's surface charge, improving solubility. Below are three key mechanisms.

ACIDIC pH (~3)

Basic residues (lysine, arginine, histidine) become protonated — electrostatic repulsion and solubility increase.

HYDROPHOBIC PEPTIDES

Molecules with a high content of hydrophobic amino acids or long chains dissolve better in an acidic environment.

HPLC/MS COMPATIBILITY

Acetic acid 0.6% is a standard component of HPLC mobile phases and MS protocols — smooth integration with analysis.

Specialist, not universal

Acetic acid is a tool for specific tasks — peptides that require an acidic environment. For most research peptides, the standard remains neutral bacteriostatic water, and for the longest stability and broadest application — Peptide Matrix Water™. Low pH in itself also limits microbial growth (natural antimicrobial protection).

Our recommendation: acetic acid 0.6% is an excellent, specialist tool for peptides that require an acidic environment. If, however, you are looking for a single, universal solvent for most protocols, we recommend Peptide Matrix Water™ — the broadest application and the longest stability (up to 60 days).

The comparison is based on formulation characteristics described in standard laboratory and pharmaceutical textbooks. It does not constitute a clinical comparison or a claim about the effect on specific peptide products.

Which peptides it is more suitable for

Acetic acid 0.6% is used mainly for peptides with specific solubility requirements. In laboratory practice, it is used, among others, for:

  • IGF analogs and growth factors: IGF-1 LR3 and related — a higher isoelectric point, they often require an acidic environment
  • HGH and MGF fragments: HGH Frag 176-191 and PEG-MGF — more hydrophobic, acidic pH reduces aggregation
  • Regenerative peptides in selected protocols: BPC-157 is sometimes reconstituted with acetic acid (although more often with bacteriostatic water)

When it is NOT suitable: for incretin peptides — Semaglutide, Tirzepatide, Retatrutide, Cagrilintide — which dissolve well in neutral solutions. For this group, a better choice is Peptide Matrix Water™ or bacteriostatic water.

How to use — peptide reconstitution

Standard laboratory practice when reconstituting lyophilized peptides with acetic acid:

  • Disinfect the vial caps and the work surface with 70% alcohol; wear gloves
  • Measure the appropriate volume of acetic acid with a calibrated precision pipette (100–1000 µL)
  • Add the solvent slowly down the wall of the peptide vial — do not direct the stream at the powder
  • Wait 10–15 min, gently swirling the vial between your palms. Do not shake (foam → denaturation)
  • Check visually: the solution should be clear, free of particles
  • Calculate the working concentration (usually 1–5 mg/mL) and volumes in the peptide calculator

Precautions and safety

Acetic acid 0.6% is a research material. Below are key technical notes on working with the solution.

Not recommended for

  • GLP-1 / GIP (incretin) peptides — neutral pH is better
  • Peptides that dissolve well in water

Technical note

  • Use according to the protocol appropriate for the given peptide
  • Not for medical injection or ingestion

Quality control

  • Visual inspection before use
  • Do not use if discolored, containing particles or with a compromised seal

The described features refer to the formulation properties of the solution and do not constitute a guarantee of a specific result — actual dissolution depends on the peptide and the laboratory conditions.

Storage and shelf life

Acetic acid 0.6% is a sterile solution for laboratory use at room temperature:

  • Before opening: room temperature (15–25 °C), in a dry and dark place, protect from direct light
  • After opening: recommended stability up to 14 days at room temperature; refrigeration (2–8 °C) may extend this period
  • Antibacterial profile: the acidic pH itself limits microbial growth while maintaining aseptic technique
  • Inspection: do not use in case of discoloration, particles or a compromised vial seal

Tip: If you need longer stability (up to 60 days) and a universal solvent for most peptides, we recommend Peptide Matrix Water™.

Frequently asked questions

Is ethanoic acid the same as acetic acid?

Yes. Ethanoic acid, acetic acid, Acetic Acid and Ethanoic Acid are different names for the same compound (CH₃COOH). 0.6% is the concentration of the solution for peptide reconstitution.

How does it differ from bacteriostatic water?

Bacteriostatic water is a standard neutral solvent (pH ~7) for most peptides. Acetic acid 0.6% is an acidic solvent (pH ~3) for peptides that do not dissolve optimally in neutral solutions.

When to choose acetic acid instead of Peptide Matrix Water™?

Acetic acid is a specialist option for peptides that require an acidic environment (IGF-1, MGF, HGH fragments, some BPC-157 protocols). For most other peptides — especially the GLP-1 family and complex blends — Peptide Matrix Water™ is a more universal premium choice, which we recommend.

Can it be used for IGF-1 LR3?

Yes. IGF-1 LR3 is among the peptides for which an acidic solvent is often recommended in laboratory protocols due to specific solubility requirements.

How many peptide vials can I reconstitute with 10 ml?

Depending on the desired concentration — one 10 ml vial is usually enough for 5–10 peptide vials (at 1–2 ml per vial).

What you need

Precision pipette

Calibrated, 100–1000 µL — for accurately measuring the volume of solvent added to the vial.

70% alcohol swabs

Two swabs — to disinfect the peptide vial and the solvent vial.

Peptide Matrix Water

Stabilized solvent for lyophilized peptides. Why this one.

Five rules for reconstitution

✅ Correct ❌ Mistake
Disinfect the vial caps and the work surface with 70% alcohol; wear gloves Working without disinfection
Add the solvent slowly along the vial wall Direct jet onto the powder — foaming and denaturation
Gentle rolling between the palms Shaking — foam, which denatures peptides
10–15 minutes waiting at room temperature Mechanical mixing or heating
Visual check: clear, particle-free Working with a cloudy or discolored solution

Calculating concentration

⚠️ Maximum 3 mL solvent. The standard vial does not accommodate larger volumes — do not exceed during reconstitution.

  • Concentration (mg/mL) = mg in the vial ÷ mL of solvent
  • Volume per sample (mL) = amount per sample (mg) ÷ concentration (mg/mL)
  • 1 mg/mL = 1 µg/µL · 1 mL = 1000 µL

👉 For any vial and solvent volume — use the calculator. It calculates the concentration (mg/mL, µg/µL) and the volume per sample (mL, µL).

Storage

BEFORE RECONSTITUTION

Room temperature, protected from direct light, in original packaging. Refrigerator not required.

AFTER RECONSTITUTION

+2 °C to +8 °C, up to 60 days with Peptide Matrix Water. Discard any remainder after this period.

FREEZING

Not recommended. Freeze/thaw cycles degrade peptide structure.

Four mistakes to avoid

1. Shaking "to dissolve faster"

Foam = denaturation. Only gentle rolling between the palms.

2. Inappropriate solvent

For peptide stability use only sterile, specially formulated solvent — recommended Peptide Matrix Water.

3. Ignoring slight turbidity

Not fully clear = the sample does not meet the criteria for use.

4. Taking it out of the refrigerator "for an hour–two"

Short exposures add up and compromise stability.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

💡 Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use plain sterile water instead of 0.6% acetic acid?

It depends on the specifics of the peptide. Some research compounds are hydrophobic and remain as particulates or aggregate in neutral water. Acetic acid provides the acidic environment necessary for complete dissolution and preservation of the structural integrity of specific molecules.

How many research samples is a single 10 ml vial sufficient for?

This depends on the study protocol. Typically 10 ml is sufficient to reconstitute 5 to 10 lyophilized vials, depending on whether 1 ml or 2 ml is used to achieve the desired concentration.

How should the solution be stored?

Before and after the initial opening of the vial, the acetic acid solution should be stored at room temperature (15°C – 25°C), in a dry place and away from direct sunlight. Unlike peptides, the solvent itself does not require refrigerated storage, but maintaining a constant temperature is key to its stability.

Why is the product for laboratory use only?

The concentration and pH level of this solution are optimized exclusively for analytical purposes and in vitro research. The product does not undergo regulatory processes for medicinal products and its use outside a laboratory setting carries risks.
