What is BPC-157?

BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a synthetic pentadecapeptide — a chain of 15 amino acids that is a fragment of a natural protective protein (BPC), discovered in gastric juice. In the research literature it is described as one of the most potent regenerative peptides, targeted at the healing of tissues, tendons, muscles and the intestinal mucosa and at cytoprotection.

BPC-157 belongs to a different class than the GH-axis peptides. Molecules such as CJC-1295 or Ipamorelin stimulate the secretion of growth hormone, and IGF-1 LR3 drives hypertrophy. BPC-157 acts differently — it supports angiogenesis and protects cells, accelerating tissue repair and regeneration of the intestinal barrier. That is why in studies it is often combined with TB-500 as a complementary regenerative pair.

BPC-157 is studied in the context of the healing of tendons, ligaments and muscles, gastroprotection (stomach, intestines), modulation of inflammation and neuroprotection. It is a research peptide — it holds no registration as a medicinal product in the EU. It belongs to the category recovery and anabolic peptides.

In the version offered by Peptology, BPC-157 is supplied as a lyophilized peptide with purity above 99% (HPLC/MS), confirmed by independent laboratory analysis (CoA for every batch). It is available in two vial formats — 5 mg and 10 mg — depending on the scale of the research protocol.

Available formats: 5 mg and 10 mg

BPC-157 is available in two lyophilized formats that cover different scales of research work — from single in vitro series to longer regenerative protocols with higher peptide consumption.

5 MG

Standard format

Suitable for validation experiments, single in vitro series and shorter regenerative protocols.

10 MG

Enlarged format

For longer research series, tissue-repair models and protocols with higher peptide consumption.

Both formats have identical purity > 99% and the same laboratory certificate for the batch. The choice of size depends on the scale of the protocol, not on the concentration of the active substance.

How BPC-157 works — angiogenesis and cytoprotection

In the research literature, BPC-157 is described as a molecule acting through several complementary repair mechanisms. Their common denominator is the rebuilding of blood supply, the protection of cells and the acceleration of healing of damaged tissues.

ANGIOGENESIS (VEGFR2)

Increases VEGF expression and activates the VEGFR2 pathway and the Akt-eNOS axis — it stimulates the formation of new vessels and improves the blood supply of the healing tissue.

CYTOPROTECTION & GUT

Derived from a gastroprotective protein — in studies it protects the mucosa of the stomach and intestines and supports the intestinal barrier and NO homeostasis.

TISSUE REPAIR

Stimulates the migration of fibroblasts (the FAK-paxillin pathway) and collagen synthesis — it accelerates the healing of tendons, ligaments and muscles.

Why the „body protection compound" matters

BPC-157 stands out for its broad, „protective" profile: it does not target a single receptor, but supports several repair mechanisms at once — angiogenesis, cytoprotection and cell migration. The original studies focused on protecting the gastrointestinal tract (stomach, duodenum), and subsequent ones expanded the scope to tendons, ligaments, muscles and even the nervous system. A central element is the interaction with the nitric oxide (NO) system, which BPC-157 helps to keep in balance across various injury models.

This mechanism is complementary to TB-500, which acts mainly through actin regulation and cell migration — which is why the two peptides are often studied together. These data come from preclinical studies and do not constitute a claim about the effect of the research-grade product.

Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of BPC-157

BPC-157 has a characteristic profile: a short presence in plasma, but biological effects lasting from days to weeks — this is the so-called „PK/PD disconnect", typical of this molecule.

  • Plasma half-life: short — below 30 minutes in animal pharmacokinetic data
  • Effects lasting days–weeks: the triggered cascades (VEGFR2, FAK-paxillin, the NO system) act long after the peptide has been cleared
  • Metabolism: hepatic; renal clearance
  • Stability: described as stable — studied after both injectable and oral administration
  • Target: multidirectional — angiogenesis, cytoprotection, cell migration (not a single receptor)
  • Human data: to date no published pharmacokinetic studies in humans

BPC-157 vs TB-500 vs IGF-1 LR3

The table below compares the three most frequently studied „regenerative" peptides with different mechanisms. BPC-157 acts cytoprotectively and pro-angiogenically, TB-500 regulates actin and cell migration, and IGF-1 LR3 drives growth and hypertrophy. Because their mechanisms are complementary, in studies they are sometimes combined into a „regenerative stack". The data are scientific and comparative in nature.

Research data on BPC-157

BPC-157 is widely studied in preclinical models (mainly rodents); to date no controlled clinical trials in humans have been published. Below are the most important directions from the literature.

Healing of tendons, muscles and ligaments

The best-documented area is the repair of the musculoskeletal system. In animal models, BPC-157 is associated with faster healing of tendons, ligaments, muscles and tendon-muscle junctions — largely thanks to the stimulation of angiogenesis and fibroblast migration.

Gastroprotection and the intestinal barrier

The original direction of research on BPC-157 concerned protection of the gastrointestinal tract. In models of mucosal damage (including that induced by ethanol or stress), the peptide exhibited a protective action on the stomach and duodenum and supported the integrity of the intestinal barrier.

Neuroprotection and the NO system

Some studies point to the neuroprotective potential of BPC-157 and to its role in maintaining nitric oxide (NO) homeostasis in various injury models. These directions remain the subject of further preclinical research.

Research dosing protocols

Important: The information below describes schedules used in research on BPC-157. It is provided for scientific and informational purposes and does not constitute a recommendation for individual use, medical advice or administration instructions. The research-grade BPC-157 offered by Peptology is not a registered medicine.

In the research literature, BPC-157 is described in schedules with daily administration, usually in shorter cycles targeted at regeneration:

  • Subcutaneous administration (often near the injury site in models) or — in some studies — oral
  • Schedule usually daily, in cycles on the order of 2–4 weeks (up to ~6 weeks in chronic models)
  • Despite the short half-life, effects last longer — thanks to the triggered repair cascades
  • Combination schedules: BPC-157 + TB-500 (complementary mechanisms) or with GH-axis peptides

In regenerative protocols, BPC-157 is sometimes combined with TB-500, and in GH-axis protocols with CJC-1295 or Ipamorelin. These schedules come from the research literature and do not constitute a recommendation for self-administration.

Side effects and safety

In preclinical models, BPC-157 is described as exceptionally well tolerated — with a very high safety profile and rare, mild side effects. It should be remembered, however, that there are no data from clinical trials in humans.

Rare and mild

  • Mild discomfort at the injection site
  • Transient fatigue
  • Nausea at higher doses

Tolerability profile

  • Very good tolerability in models
  • No serious side effects reported
  • Stable after injectable and oral administration

To consider

  • Pro-angiogenic action — caution in proliferation contexts
  • No clinical data in humans
  • Hypersensitivity to formula components

Most observed side effects are mild and transient. As a pro-angiogenic peptide, BPC-157 requires caution in contexts related to cell proliferation. This information is scientific in nature and does not constitute an instruction for use.

Storage and reconstitution

BPC-157 is supplied as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder in a vial. In lyophilized form it is stable at room temperature, protected from light and moisture — refrigeration before reconstitution is not mandatory. After reconstitution, stability depends on the solvent used, with Peptide Matrix Water™ significantly extending the peptide's lifespan.

  • Before reconstitution: room temperature, in the original packaging, protected from light and moisture. A refrigerator is not mandatory.
  • After reconstitution with Peptide Matrix Water™: stability in the refrigerator +2 °C to +8 °C for up to 60 days under appropriate laboratory conditions — the stabilizing formula extends the peptide's lifespan relative to standard solvents.
  • After reconstitution with bacteriostatic or sterile water: stability in the refrigerator +2 °C to +8 °C for up to 28 days under appropriate conditions. Do not refreeze the reconstituted solution.
  • Reconstitution: in a laboratory setting, Peptide Matrix Water™, bacteriostatic water or sterile water for injection is usually used, depending on the protocol.
  • Volume: maximum 3 mL of solvent (capacity of a standard vial). For a precise calculation of volume and units, use the peptide calculator.
  • Homogenization: add the solvent slowly down the vial wall, without vigorous shaking — peptide bonds are sensitive to mechanical stress. Swirl gently, do not shake.

Laboratory tip: With your order, you can add Peptide Matrix Water™ to the cart — a stabilizing solution designed for working with reconstituted research peptides. More in the article Bacteriostatic water vs acetic acid vs matrix water.

Frequently asked questions about BPC-157

What exactly is BPC-157?

It is a synthetic pentadecapeptide (15 amino acids) that is a fragment of a protective protein from gastric juice. In studies it supports angiogenesis, protects cells and accelerates tissue repair — of tendons, muscles, ligaments and the intestinal mucosa. The results come from the preclinical literature.

How does BPC-157 differ from TB-500?

Both are regenerative peptides, but they act differently. BPC-157 acts cytoprotectively and pro-angiogenically (rebuilding blood supply, protecting tissues), while TB-500 regulates actin and cell migration. Their mechanisms are complementary, which is why they are often combined into a pair in studies.

What is the half-life of BPC-157?

Short — below 30 minutes in animal data. What is characteristic, however, is the „PK/PD disconnect": despite the rapid clearance of the peptide from plasma, the repair cascades it triggers (angiogenesis, fibroblast migration) act for days to weeks.

Which format to choose — 5 or 10 mg?

Both have identical purity > 99% and the same batch certificate. 5 mg works well for shorter protocols and single series, and 10 mg — for longer tissue-repair models with higher peptide consumption.

Can it be combined with other peptides?

Yes — it is classically combined with TB-500 for a complementary regenerative effect, and also with GH-axis peptides (CJC-1295, Ipamorelin).

How is BPC-157 stored and reconstituted?

The lyophilized vial is stored at room temperature, protected from light and moisture. After reconstitution, stability depends on the solvent: with Peptide Matrix Water™ — up to 60 days in the refrigerator +2 °C to +8 °C; with bacteriostatic or sterile water — up to 28 days. Avoid refreezing.

What you need

Precision pipette

Calibrated, 100–1000 µL — for accurately measuring the volume of solvent added to the vial.

70% alcohol swabs

Two swabs — to disinfect the peptide vial and the solvent vial.

Peptide Matrix Water

Stabilised solvent for lyophilized peptides. Why this one.

Five rules for reconstitution

✅ Correct ❌ Incorrect
Disinfect the vial caps and the work surface with 70% alcohol; wear gloves Working without disinfection
Add the solvent slowly against the vial wall Direct jet onto the powder — foaming and denaturation
Gentle rolling between the palms Shaking — foam that denatures peptides
10–15 minutes wait at room temperature Mechanical stirring or heating
Visual check: clear, particle-free Working with cloudy or coloured solution

Calculating concentration

⚠️ Maximum 3 mL solvent. The standard vial does not hold a larger volume — do not exceed when reconstituting.

  • Concentration (mg/mL) = mg in the vial ÷ mL solvent
  • Volume per sample (mL) = amount per sample (mg) ÷ concentration (mg/mL)
  • 1 mg/mL = 1 µg/µL · 1 mL = 1000 µL

Reconstitution per vial — solvent: Peptide Matrix Water. Concentration after adding the solvent (1 mg/mL = 1 µg/µL):

Vial+ 1 mL+ 2 mL+ 3 mL
5 mg5 mg/mL2.5 mg/mL1.67 mg/mL
10 mg10 mg/mL5 mg/mL3.33 mg/mL

👉 For any vial and solvent volume — use the calculator. It calculates the concentration (mg/mL, µg/µL) and the volume per sample (mL, µL).

Storage

BEFORE RECONSTITUTION

Room temperature, protected from direct light, in original packaging. Refrigeration not required.

AFTER RECONSTITUTION

+2 °C to +8 °C, up to 60 days with Peptide Matrix Water. Discard any remainder after this period.

FREEZING

Not recommended. Freeze/thaw cycles degrade peptide structure.

Four mistakes to avoid

1. Shaking “to dissolve faster”

Foam = denaturation. Only gentle rolling between the palms.

2. Unsuitable solvent

For peptide stability use only a sterile, specially formulated solvent — recommended Peptide Matrix Water.

3. Ignoring slight cloudiness

Not fully clear = the sample does not meet criteria for use.

4. Removing from the refrigerator “for an hour–two”

Short periods out accumulate and compromise stability.
